PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2000-Present Professor, Psychology and Counseling, Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Georgia. Responsible for teaching courses primarily in the area of educational psychology. Both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses are taught via the web.

1989-2000 Associate Professor, Psychology, Counseling and Guidance, Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Georgia. Responsible for teaching courses primarily in the areas of educational, developmental, and cognitive psychology.

1992-1995 Co-director, Georgia/Alabama Center for Critical Thinking, Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Georgia. Responsible for providing and coordinating expertise on critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to educators in Georgia and Alabama. Also established and maintain a materials center containing books, audiotapes, videotapes, computer software, and related publications focused on these topics.

1987-1995 Coordinator, Graduate Research Symposium sponsored by the School of Education and Editor of Proceedings;

1985-1989 Assistant Professor, Psychology, Counseling and Guidance, Valdosta State College, Valdosta, Georgia.

1982-1985 Instructor, Psychology and Education, and Coordinator of Academic Advising, Navajo Community College, Tsaile, Arizona. As an instructor, major responsibilities included teaching the various courses offered in psychology and education as required. As Coordinator of Academic Advising, duties included coordination of placement testing, assignment of academic advisors, supervision of a computer-generated information system, and coordination of inservice training for academic advisors, including development of advisors' manual. Also coordinated the North Central Accreditation Self-Study Report for instruction.

1978-1982 Research/Evaluation Specialist, Basic Skills Component, Research for Better Schools, Inc., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Provided technical expertise for project utilizing effective classroom and school research to develop an improvement program. This included designing a conceptual model, developing instruments, procedures, manuals and other materials to be used in training (including videotapes) and assisting in the implementation in school districts. Also participated in planning, performing, and reporting on the documentation/evaluation of program implementation and effectiveness.

1976-1978 Project Director, Parent-Infant Transaction Project, Institute for Development of Human Resources, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Was responsible for the day-to-day operation of project investigating parent-infant interaction as it relates to infant competence at age 12 months. Involved in the recruitment of families, the establishment and maintenance of a videotaping studio, the hiring and training of graduate and undergraduate assistants, and the statistical analysis of the final report.

1975-1976 Graduate Assistant, Florida Model Follow Through Program, Institute for Development of Human Resources, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Assigned to the Parent Advisory Committee consulting team. Reviewed literature and wrote training packets for use by consultants in areas such as small group processes, parliamentary procedure, family and program budgeting, increasing parent involvement in education, and the implementation of community-wide assessment for educational needs.

1973-1975 Peace Corps Volunteer, Truk (Chuk) District, Micronesia. First year assignment was as a marketing and management advisor to a fishing cooperative. Consulted with the Board of Directors with respect to long-term policies, worked with the manager in the day-to-day operation of the co-op, and traveled to other islands for the purpose of promoting the establishment of additional co-ops. During the second year taught business courses at the Truk Teacher Education Center and social studies courses in the Adult Education Program. In addition, served as a statistics and research consultant to the Truk District Education Department.

1972-1973 Instructor, Business Education, Technical-Vocational Institute, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Taught marketing and management courses in a one-year mid-level management program. Also served as the faculty advisor to the student newspaper.

1971-1972 Teacher, Eighth-grade mathematics, Ft. King Middle School, Ocala, Florida. Taught four classes per day of eighth-grade mathematics and one class in student guidance.

VIDEOTAPE PRODUCTION

Served as production director for four videotapes produced by Research for Better Schools, Inc. These videotapes are used in the orientation to the Achievement Directed Leadership Program and in the training for observing student engaged time in classrooms and comparing that data to research.

COMPUTER MATERIALS PRODUCTION

Developed and continue to modify a "Educational Psychology Interactive" for the Wide World Web that serves as an introduction to the Internet for education and psychology majors. This website is one of the most often used at Valdosta State. Also developed a list of over 400 articles related to educational psychology. A page that provides links to materials used by students in undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in educational psychology. These two resources combined accounted for approximately 5% of all web traffic at VSU in 1998.
