Proper procedure in developing a good
research
paper. This will benefit me throughout the rest of my college years and
in
my future career that will involve writing and publishing research
articles.

None.
|
He can discuss with the students that
writing
good research papers takes time and practice and that the first shot at
writing
one should not be graded too strictly.
|
I think the most valuable aspect of this
course
was the way Dr. Whatley made us work to find the answers. He never just
gave
us the answer. I think that is really important because it makes the
students
take complete responsibility for the class and the grade. This
definitely
made the class more challenging and I feel like I really earned my
grade.
Dr. Whatley was always available and willing to answer many questions.

Dr. Whatley was available outside of class
to
help students whenever needed. Dr. Whatley also made it easy to
communicate
w/him inside and outside of class.

The web site was very helpful with
projects
and assignments given in class. Lecture outlines were very clear and
precise.

More grading is needed for this course. I
feel
that the "big" assignment aka the paper needed to be graded as we
progressed
to finish it.

Do more than stand up at the front of the
class
and restate what is in the written notes on the television screen.
Teach
the class instead of just telling students what to do.
About 40% of the material presented
in
lecture will not be found in the book. About 50% of the course is
"hands
on" with computer work. Were you absent those days?
|
All aspects were valuable.
|
There was nothing done in this course that
was
not valuable in one way or another.
|
There is nothing that could be done to
improve
this course. It is an excellent course with an excellent instructor
that
will be of much value in future courses.
|
I learned a lot from doing the paper.

The lectures and outlines were very
helpful
for understanding the material. The video segments were also useful in
explaining
concepts in more detail. Dr. Whatley was extremely helpful with the
research
paper, helping us do a section at a time instead of throwing the whole
thing
at us at once.
|
The online homework was confusing at
times,
and not always clear as to what was wanted.
|
Clarify instructions for online work and
have
a clearer system for grading.
|
The APA formatting will inevitably be
valuable
to me throughout my career in psychology. The majory of the principles
taught
will also be of a great help and will continue to help me understand
psychological
studies that I may come in contact with during the course of my life.
|
Just about everything was valuable.
|
Sometimes the material was not very clear,
but
usually the instructor was able to clarify it. Other times he seemed to
give
an explanation that used concepts that made the issue even harder to
understand.
It is hard to use "laymen's terms" when explaining these concepts
because
they are often not to be understood by layme, but those types of terms
and
explanations would surely prove valuable.
|
The most valuable aspect of this course
was
Dr. Whatley's williningness to help students. If even I had a question
or
problem concerning issues in class, I knew that I could either make an
appointment
with him or simply drop by his office for a better understanding of the
material.
He takes the time needed to ensure all questions are answered!
|
Least valuable...I can't really think of
anything
least valuable. Everything offered to the students was needed in being
prepared
for this course. Online material provided by Dr. Whatley was very
necessary
and needed, and the book provided back-up and further information for
the
things we learned in the classroom.
|
Honestly, the only advice I have to Dr.
Whatley
is to keep up the good work. It is really nice to have a professor who
cares
about the students he/she teaches, to have a rapore in and outside of
the
classroom. I never once felt dumb asking a question in class, and never
felt
bad going to Dr. Whatley's office afterwards if I didn't understand
something.
He's made me realize that Psychology is what I want to do in life! This
course,
I believe, holds true to the "make-it-or-break-it" label students give
it.
It demands a lot of your time. But it is worth it. You must give time
to
projects and assignments you want to do well on. In the end, your hard
work
WILL pay off!!!
|
Dr. Whatley was available to help students
outside
of class. The paper will definitely help in future psychology classes.
|
Some of the assignments were to difficult
for
the students, because they were not taught everyting that the
assignments
asked. Very heavy workload, which caused the students to be very
stressed.
I agree with what you infer; the
course
could use a lab.
|
The instructor and the department should
realize
that a statistics course is the only prerequisite for the class and the
students
are not taught everything. When he or she first comes into the class,
he
or she is supposed to be familiar with SPSS and everyone was not taught
statistics
on the computer. In addition, the course might want to be extended to a
full
year besides one semester.
If you were having trouble, then you
should
have come by my office for clarification like other students did.
|
The instructor's website was most helpful,
especially
with the paper for this class. The site was well designed and easy to
navigate
and had all the information for all aspects of the course summarized in
a
way you could understand.
|
Everything was used was used for a purpose
and
it all fell into the course design.
|
This should be a two semester course. In
one
course you learn all the concepts from the book and lectures and then
you
apply those concepts and write an experimental paper in the second
part.
It was really overwhelming to have to learn the material from the book
and
study for quizzes here and in other classes AND having to write a paper
while
trying to wrap your brain around something you just learned.
