Student Comments – Fall Semester 1999

The strengths of this course were: The weaknesses of this course were: Suggestions for improvement or additional comments:
I learned a lot about typing papers & working on the computer. Web page was wonderful. It was hard to know if the homework assignments were right. BVED should be a requirement before taking this course. Dr. Whatley was very helpful and seemed to care about his students and the problems they were having.
I learned about experimentation. Somethings were not clear on how to do them. I got to feeling if I asked a question I would feel stupid. He needs to communicate some of the things to where everyone can understand them.
The teacher's efficiency and enthusiasm Dwelling on, & spending too much time on one project; may be doing sets of revisions - even, for instance, on interactive Web, would be helpful. Perhaps a number of small projects would be more useful than one major one.
The website was very helpful. Not being able to revise papers. Explain more about intro and discussion of paper. Allow students to revise paper.
Professor had a good personality, and made me want to attend class every day. I felt the material for the APA paper was not covered well enough in class. N/A
Dr. Whatley is a very approachable teacher. He made course materials easily available through his website. Dr. Whatley is a little anal retentive about the papers in his class. He needs to realize that we are not submitting a manuscript to be ripped apart by a journal publisher - we simply want a decent grade for all our hard work!! N/A
Web site. Having a web site with up to date information was extremely helpful. It was damn hard. Give Whatley a pay raise.
Dr. Whatley is very helpful and easy to talk to. Homework exercises were helpful too. They helped to prepare you for the test. Not able to get to computer lab when I needed to. More lab hours.
Web page was helpful. Computer lab was not open any during semester. N/A
Access to the web page. All resources needed for paper were on the web and very helpful - using sample papers helped. Discussing lecture material. None I can think of.
The teacher was very interested in his subject and the achievements of his students. The web page helped by showing grades of the past and our own, we were able to print our homework and other info. from his web page...that was enjoyable. I will take another course taught by the professor in the future, and he wasn't even easy!!  The class notes that were prepared for us were vague. Better lecture notes.
The webpage was a huge help. Sometimes the computers didn't work right. Do more in class experiments, more hands on work.
Web site Too much busy work, which did not serve any purpose. N/A
I liked teh teacher's presentation style using Power Point and the web page. Not enough practice. We got only one shot at the paper. Personally I felt a little overwhelmed w/it. We're not psychologists yet, and in turn our first Experimental paper is going to reflect that. For Paper 1, just have more practice writing it and the separate sections.
Sample quizzes online. Web site was very helpful. Playing a bull's eye game relating it to regression towards the mean. Writing the paper and having it count for so many points it should be worth 1 1/2 test grades instead of two. Change the % points for the paper because it's hard!!
The website was very helpful. I found so much necessary stuff there. I was confused a lot of the time about assignments, what was expected. N/A
Good website - nice links, etc. Clear procession through content. The main paper should have had a draft grading earlier on so we could find our faults. Could have left all information on web all semester. Allows for referral back.
Learning how to do APA style. Papers website material very good with help. None None
The website helped a lot with the experiment and writing the paper. It also helped with studying for the test in the class. Need to do more explaining before actually writing the research article. Additional explanation and practice on writing the paper prior to having to write the paper.
The notes and quizzes on website were good. Help on the internet for our experimental paper was great. Notes on website should contain more information (more detailed). Don't be so harsh on papers.
Pace was good - sometimes too fast. Sample test a little lengthy. Overall - a challenging class. Psyc stats does help - may need to review a bit more when doing paper on exp.
Course materials, website, easy and quick access to grades, course assignments, etc. Very open and concerned professor meeting students on their level. Structure of learning how to write the paper. It was tough. Turning in the different sections of the paper to be graded and connected so we can learn from our errors.
The teacher explained the material very clearly. He was organized. The website he created was very helpful. The experimental paper was good exposure to developing a real experiment. He used relevant video tapes also. There wasn't enough time to fully understand each step of the experiment. Don't be so picky on the paper. The comments were helpful but the points were too drastic.
