The Normal Distribution

If you want the professor to "curve" the grades, then you will not like the outcome. For example, at the end of a semester in a very easy class, everyone has a 90% average or above. But, as a class you voted in favor of changing the professor's standard grading scale (i.e., 90, 80, etc.) to a curve. The end result using a normal distribution of scores would involve the person with a class average of 90% receiving an F, because he or she has the lowest class average. So, the next time you think about asking the professor to curve the grades be aware that 2.14% of the class will get A's, 13.59% will get B's, 68.26% will get C's, 13.59% will get D's, and 2.14% will get F's REGARDLESS of their class average.
