Please wait a
moment until the spiral has finished loading. When
the spiral is spinning smoothly, stare at the center of it for 45 to 60
seconds. Then, when you look at the back of your hand, the skin will
appear to be twitching and moving...WEIRD!!
Why does
this happen? The basic principle is the same as what occurs with
Hering’s Opponent-Process Theory of color vision. By fatiguing the
receptors that are firing the way the spiral is spinning, we are left
with the "opposite" receptors firing when we look at a stationary
object.
