American History
This page was specially designed for Mrs. Ann Scott's second grade class at Bacon County Primary School in Alma, Georgia, by Miss Angela L. Sweat, a Valdosta State University preservice teacher.
 


 
 

1. First Americans for Grade Schoolers
This site is devoted to Native Americans.  Visit this site and you can work puzzles, draw pictures, play cards, and explore and learn about Native Americans.  It also has lots of great pictures for your viewing pleasure.
 

2. The Hall of American Presidents
Visit this site to learn everything you could ever want to know about all of the presidents of  the United States of America.  Learn about their lives and the time they spent in office.  This site is partially under construction, but there is still lots of information to find.
 

3. You be the Historian
This site will allow you to look at life two hundred years ago in Colonial America.  It chronicles a family from New Castle, Delaware.  See what their daily lives were like and how much America has changed since.
 

4. A Pioneer's Journey to the Frontier
Visit this site and you can explore the daily life of pioneer families who traveled and eventually settled the American West.  Learn about wagon trains and pioneer's possessions that include food, toys, first aid, etc.  This site also has lots of wonderful illustrations that help bring the stories to life.
 

5. SchoolHouse Rock
This site is based on the Saturday morning ABC cartoon SchoolHouse Rock.  This site contains words and real audio tunes for grammar, science, math, and American History.
 

6. Plimouth Plantation
This site is a living history museum for a tour of a 1627 pilgrim village, the Mayflower II.  Learn about pilgrim history and daily life.
 

7. Teel Family
This site is all about the American holiday Thanksgiving.  It has activities, coloring pages, links to other Thanksgiving sites on the Internet, and a unit study on Thanksgiving.
 

                   8. Trusty's Kids Corner
Visit Trusty's site and you can tell your own personal history in the "Tell Your Story" page.  You can also play hunt and seek games, do slider puzzles, and take quizzes on the information you will learn about American History.
 


9. Encyclopedia Britanica Guide to Black History
This site covers five centuries of African American history.  It has audio and video clips.  There is a timeline of achievements that African Americans have made in sports, politics, art, education, etc.  It also gives links to other sites of African American history.
 

10. American Local History Network
This site is devoted to famous Americans throughout history.  Learn about the people that made America great from Betsy Ross to the Wright Brothers.

      Activity 1

1.  Describe Activity You have been chosen to complete a most daring assignment for your class newspaper.  As a roving reporter, you will travel in the time capsule back to early America and the time of the Pilgrims.  Your boss needs you to find out everything you can about the  European settlers who first came to America including their journey to America, their daily life, and their interactions with the Native Americans they encountered.  Once you have collected your data, you will return to present time and compile an article for the class newspaper.  Good luck and be safe!!!

        Activity 2

1.  Describe Activity Your class is opening an art museum.  Your teacher has entrusted you to contribute a drawing for the museum.  The drawing must be a landscape scene of Native American daily life.  You may choose any tribe you want and use any type of art material you wish to complete your drawing.  You will be expected to give an oral interpretation of your drawing when you present your drawing to class when the museum opens for business.
