1998  The faculty in the Early Childhood and Reading Education Department at VSU discussed the value of e-portfolios and the possibilities of implementing them into the ECRE curriculum.

1999  Discussion  was continued by the ECRE faculty, and we began to seek information about e-portfolios and to look at examples from other universities.  We believed there was a need, because NCATE was scheduled to visit VSU in fall 2001.

2000  The ECRE Department faculty decided to discuss the development of an e-portfolio format with the Dean of the COE.

* The Dean had definite ideas about the e-portfolios.  This would be a COE e-portfolio project in its development and implementation.

* The COE electronic portfolio committee was formed with at least one faculty member from each department in the COE.

§ The e-portfolio committee discussed possible formats and implementation for the COE e-portfolios.

§ There was a consensus by the e-portfolio committee members to use the INTASC Standards and the Charlotte Danielson's Framework for Teaching Components.  Danielson (1996) provided a correlation table of the INTASC standards and the framework.

· Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) with the approval of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards developed performance-based standards and assessment strategies (INTASC standards).
§ The COE e-portfolio committee also agreed to have the education majors to begin their e-portfolio in the Introduction to Education course in the VSU core curriculum.
* The technology support person for COE faculty provided the technology expertise for the e-portfolio project.
2001  The new COE e-portfolio format was implemented at VSU in the Introduction to Education classes and the Educational Technology classes in the Early Childhood and Reading Education Program.
